Letters to the Editor

Below are “Letters to the Editor” to give you an idea of what people are saying about the Peter Dunbar candidacy.

October 19, 2010

I support Dr. Peter Dunbar for the State 41st District House seat. The incumbent, Marcie Maxwell, has voted with the majority for every single piece of legislation that has increased our state tax burden and government growth that has come about.

Dunbar will respect the will of the voter and will make it harder, not easier, to raise taxes.

I would like to get some balance to our state government, with the hard times we have and the hard times coming. We will need to cope with the federal mandate for Washington state to assume health care costs, and Dunbar, as an associate professor at the UW Medical School, is someone with experience dealing with patient safety and access.

For the last two years our lawmakers have been unable to balance our state’s multibillion-dollar deficit due to a lack of innovative ideas and a reliance on old policies that have repeatedly failed.

It’s time to hold our legislators accountable. We must elect representatives who will bring new creative ideas to the table and who won’t sit back and use the age-old strategy of dramatically increasing taxes as the only way to balance the budget. It’s time to elect someone who will critically analyze the numbers and find a new and better solution that doesn’t suck millions of dollars out of an already struggling economy.

Legislators must find a way to put money back into the hands of businesses, rather than taking it away from them by raising taxes.

This year we must elect someone who is prepared to fight for fiscal responsibility. If we elect Peter Dunbar and Steve Litzow, they will work to find new responsible ways to balance the budget and grow our state’s economy. If our Legislature doesn’t start trying to find a new approach to solving our budget crisis, our economy will continue to struggle and fall behind.

Let’s Change the Status Quo

If you are happy with the politics in our state then there is no reason to read further. However, if you are like me and feel that a change is necessary, than I would urge you to consider voting for Peter Dunbar.

I have met Peter, once at a neighborhood meeting on his behalf and again as he was knocking on doors on my street. He has a conservative message with strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility, education, and a return to sanity in government.

Any vote other than for Peter Dunbar is a vote for the status quo.

Change in our Washington is as critical as in the other Washington

As a resident of Mercer Island, I find it interesting how both Washingtons seem to be having the same challenges. Giant deficits, massive tax increases and both seem to be chasing private sector job creators to other states and abroad. We need change here in this Washington as much as we do in the other and will find it in my good friend Peter Dunbar. Peter is running to represent Bellevue, Renton and Mercer Island in Olympia.

I first met Peter Dunbar as we entered the MBA program at the University of Washington 10 years ago. Peter is a 25-year practicing physician, educator, small business owner and a Scotsman. I have watched him show his leadership in the MBA program and as President of the Washington Medical Association where he earned many friends on both sides of the isle. In Olympia, Peter will focus on a balanced budget without raising taxes. Not raising taxes means bringing the job creators to our State instead of sending them away.

Please join me in voting for Peter Dunbar for State Representative.

Is there a doctor in the house? Unfortunately, the answer is no in the Washington State House of Representatives. Dr. Peter Dunbar would be a most welcome addition, and I support his candidacy. As a physician assistant (PA), I met Peter when he and I practiced medicine together at Harborview Medical Center. From my first meeting with him, I saw a doctor with compassion, leadership, creativity and the ability to bring people together. Peter Dunbar was widely respected for his hard work, principled and compassionate way of treating others, and his good cheer.

I saw Peter’s fresh ideas and energy bring value on a daily basis to the care of our patients. Peter Dunbar knew then what he knows now: we can provide better health care and better education for our communities while simultaneously increasing our efficiencies and decreasing waste in our health care and education systems. We need a doctor in the house, so please join me in supporting Peter Dunbar for state Legislature.

Peter Dunbar is running in the 41st District for Position #1, against incumbent State Representative Marcie Maxwell. Peter is a man of principle, a successful small business owner who believes in managing operating costs within a forecasted budget and making cuts when the proposed expenditures exceeds the plan. Peter is always looking for ways improve processes and services internal to his company and to reduce costs to his customers. His business experience and his ability to bring together diverse perspectives into a common objective/goal will be a great help in Olympia. I would like to encourage you take the time to visit Peters Web site (http://votedunbar.com ) and attend one of his speaking events so you can get to know him.

I am a Precinct Committee Officer on Mercer Island and I have known Peter Dunbar for two years from Republican meetings. Peter and I became friends and have had many discussions about what is wrong in Olympia.

Peter and I agree the number one problem is out of control government growth and spending that we can not afford. Unlike his opponent, he would have voted “no” on the $800 million in new taxes. He will focus on creating jobs by reducing unnecessary government regulations and bureaucracies that restrict growth of private sector businesses and jobs.

Peter Dunbar will bring much-needed leadership, new energy and innovation to Olympia.
